Elsie heard it often when she roamed the halls, Vlad's mansion was large , and this was a convenient shortcut for her. At first Elsie hadn't been sure she really heard it, it could have been the wind, the windows were often open and higher up so it could be making the odd sound. The third or fourth time it was clearer and accompanied by the sound of scratching, if Lana had been there, she was sure her friend would reassure her it was most likely a rat infestation or something of the like. Lana was not here, and Elsie wasn't as naive as she had been a few months earlier, she was sure it would be in her best interest to ignore it.
Things became busy and Elsie had no time to return to that corridor, after a month's time she was walking with Vlad and she heard it again. It was louder but still muffled behind the walls, Vlad slowed when she did and glanced at it, deep in thought.
"You hear that?" Vlad inclined his head towards the sound of the noise and Elsie nodded slowly. She had forgotten about the noise of course, what with all that had happened, now it seemed Vlad was bent on making her remember. He knew she walked down this hall often, it was the fastest way to the garden, and she was sure she had walked with him down here before. Vlad smiled at the nod and moved towards the wall, tapping on it, the sound ceased.
"Silence yourself, Your disturbing my company." Then he turned and walked on, as if nothing had happened at all.
